Thomas Bungay
We may note (from the Irene Hatcher Sibley obituary (see below) that James Bungay, Alec Bungay and Wilson Bungay are listed - and I surmise they were brothers - perhaps married to three Hatcher sisters. I have information on Wilson Bungay which may link Alec (Alexander) to the same parents - i.e. Thomas Bungay and Phoebe Vatcher. This is a bit speculative and will have to be 'proved' by other sources - for perhaps they are 'cousins.' If it is accurate, based on this line of sleuthing, that Thomas and Pheoebe are Alexander Bungay's parents, then here is the information that takes the famly back several generations. Thomas Bungay was the son of Charles Bungay and Mary Hare - and was married to Phoebe Vatcher (born Dec. 1858, Lamaline, NFLD). Thomas was born in 1842 and died in 1895 (lost at sea, age 53). He was a fisherman / mariner. They lived on a house boat, and some of the children were born on it. They had built a home in the Reach, but did not live there long after their marriage. Thomas' brother was John Bungay who married Isabelle Warren. Phoebe Vatcher next married George William Rose (son of Samuel Rose and Jane Keeping) on 28 October 1886, in Burgeo, Newfoundland. He was born in 1867 in Burgeo, christened on 10 March, 1867, Burgeo, and died 22 Sept. 1930, Burgeo. They had a daughter - Geraldine Jane Rose. Known children of Thomas Bungay and Phoebe Vatcher were George Charles, Martha Vatcher Bungay, Mary Maria and Wilson. (Again, from the above obituary, I surmise that James and Alexander Bungay were also sons of Thomas and Phoebe.) George Charles Bungay was born in 1872 (at sea); christened 21 March 1880, Lower Burgeo, Newfoundland - died March 1898 (at sea; age 26). He was buried at sea. Martha Vatcher Bungay was christened 30 May, 1887, Burgeo, Newfoundland. Mary Maria Bungay was born in 1881. Wilson Bungay was born in Burgeo, Newfoundland; christened there 31 October 1884. Alexander Bungay (father of Vivienne Bungay) Details and connections related to the Hatcher and Bungay families stem from the following on-line obituary. SIBLEY,
