Oderin, a resettled fishing community, was located on Oderin Island in western Placentia Bay, about 30 km northeast of Marystown. Oderin Island is horseshoe-shaped with its mouth facing west. It has a natural harbour. The community was resettled in 1966 with the families relocated to Rushoon, Parker's Cove, Burin and St. John's.
The following Clarkes are listed as fishermen in the 1904 McAlpine's Directory of NF - for the Burin Peninsula: Little St. Lawrence -- Richard Clarke, Peter Clarke, Michael Clarke, John Clarke, Paul Clarke, Joseph Clarke, Thomas Clarke. Beck family members are also listed. There may be some 'connection' here in that Edward Clarck married Rachel Beck of St. Lawrence, NL. There is no mention of his father, Nelson, but perhaps the other Clarkes are near family members and relatives.
