Thomas Gatenby
Thomas Gatenby, son of Mary Pennock and William Gatenby, was born on the 25th of January, 1816 in Egton, North Riding of Yorkshire. He died between 1881 and 1891. He married (1) Sarah (last name unknown) who was born in 1858. He married (2) Hannah Noble in March of 1842, in Whitby, Yorks. She was born in 1814 in Ugglebarnby, Sleights, Yorkshire. She died about 1901.
In the censuses of 1851 and 1861 Thomas is at Sleights, Esdaleside, as is Hannah in 1851. In 1871 Thomas is at Allison's Cottage, Sleights, Eskdaleside. In 1881 he was at 1 Allison's Cottage, Eskdaleside along with his grand-daughter Hannah Gatenby (born 1871 in Middlesbrough) who is staying with the couple.
Thomas was a freestone miner.
