Thomas Gatenby, son of Thomas Gatenby and Hannah Noble, was born on the 14th of January, 1849 at Eskdale cum Ugglebarnby. He married Annie Ryder in September of 1875 in Scarborough, NRY. She was born in 1851 in Scampston, Malton, NRY. In the 1901 census they are living at 32 Abingdon Road, Middlesbrough, NRY. He was a 'joiner's journeyman' in the 1871 census and is living at Allison's Cottage, in Sleights, NRY.
