They came from Ireland with many of their countrymen to take advantage of the opportunity of grants of land. There were two families of the name who settled in the Londonderry Township of Nova Scotia. John Vance - arrived in Nova Scotia Oct 9 1761. Living in Amherst, NS by 1765 and eventually settled at Londonderry, NS by 1770. David Vance - Was living at Londonderry Township by the year 1770. He is not a son of the above John Vance Sr., but probably closely related. There were two families of the name McNutt to settle in Colchester County. George McNutt and his wife Mary came from Ireland in 1765 and first lived at Amherst, Cumberland County. Ten years later they brought their family to Londonderry Township and settled there at Masstown. William McNutt and his wife Elizabeth Thompson, were grantees of the Township of Onslow in the early 1760's. His ancestry can be traced back to Ireland and Scotland. |
