John Williams

John Williams was born in England, about 1800, and came to Woody Island, Newfoundland with his brother, Samuel. John married Hannah Muriah (Anna Maria?) Unknown, who was born about 1802. They were married ca1824.

He later removed to Pool's Cove, Fortune Bay, NL when a land deal did not work out at Woody Island (see below).

Some of the children of John Williams and Hannah Muriah were born on Woody Island and the latter born at Pool's Cove after John and Hannah moved there. The children were:

Thomas - born bf 1830, Woody Island, NL

Charles - borm 1830 Wood Island, Placentia Bay, NL; married Elizabeth Patten (1837 - 1922) on 11th of July, 1859, Grand Bank, NL.

Edith - born Woody Island, NL Charles - born 1830 Wood Island, Placentia Bay, NL; married Elizabeth Patten (1837 - 1922) on 11th of July, 1859, Grand Bank, NL. (twin of Charles?)

Caroline - born Woody Island, NL, 1833; married James Perham (1827 - 1903)

John - born 3 Nov. 1833 (Burin Births and Bapt. Records 1826 - 1891 Belleoram - Church of England) - (twin of Caroline?)

Elizabeth - born ? at Woody Island, NL

James - born in 1836, Newfoundland (likely at Pool's Cove)

Henry - born in 1838, Newfoundland (likely at Pool's Cove)

William - born ? at Pool's Cove


Land Deal: When a young John Williams owed Robt Barrett, a prominent and wealth leader and entrepreneur on the island, money but couldn't repay, Barrett took the land and gave it to his own daughter, Sarah, and her husband Philip Stacey. John Williams then left and went to Pool's Cove.

Family tradition - Two Williams brothers from England, settled at Woody Island about 1845; one of the brothers moved to Pools Cove (Fortune Bay).
