The Francis Family

Susanna Francis married Samuel Barber. She was born 8 December, 1825 and christened: 24 January, 1826,in Pakenham, Suffolk, England. Susanna and Samuel were married in St. Andrew's Prebyterian Church, in Fergus, Ontario, on the 10th of December, 1845. She died (of apoplexy) in Guelph, ON, Canada, 19 November 1885 and was buried 20 November, 1885, Woodlawn Cemetery (Lot 58, Block E, Area 96), Guelph, ON, Canada.

Notice of Death in Guelph Mercury: "On Thursday, November 19th, Susanna Francis, wife of Samuel, age 63. Funeral from the residence of the late George S. Barber, MacDonald St., Guelph."

Her father, Francis Francis with his wife and family of three lived on a small farm about where the railway crosses Mill Creek (near Fergus, Ontario. On this hundred acres there were 3 homes; William Everett being on the south of Francis and Edward Bradley to the north, on part of the farm now owned (1906 - 1909) by Alexander Keith.

In the Francis family there were: Susanna who married Samuel Barber and lived in Guelph: Robert who married Rebecca Metcalf: Elizabeth who married Leonard Dickinson. Mrs. Francis died in Pilkington after which Mr. Francis went along with Robert and Elizabeth to live in the Township of Bentinck, near Hanover, ON.

Francis Francis and his wife and family had come from Toronto to Pilkington in 1829 or 1830, having just emigrated to Canada.
