John James Willoughby was the son of Charles Willoughby and Margaret Moore. He was born near Rockwood, in Eramosa Township (Lot 6, Concession 6), Wellington County, Ontario, Canada, June 15th, 1861.

He died on the 30th of October, 1918 at Aspidin, Stistead Twp., Muskoka, Ontario (near Huntsville). He had moved there and married Mary Webber of Devonshire, England on the 27th of January 1887 at St. George's Church, Lancelot, Muskoka District, Ontario.
