Robert Henry Barber

The son of Samuel Barber and Susannah Francis, Robert Henry was a painter and decorator - born on the 7th of January, 1854, in Guelph Township, Ontario.

He married Elizabeth Ann Goulding on 6 December, 1876 at First Baptist Church, Guelph. They resided at 116 Farquhar, Guelph.

His business address was: 75 Market Sq. (in 1919) - which was a Paint and Decorating Store in St. George's Square. He had founded it in 1883 and this became the nucleus for Barber Glass. His son, T. Ross Barber took over this decorating business in the late 1930's - developing it into a retail glass shop, which he sold in the early 1950's to his son, Donald S. Barber.

Barber Glass is in 2004 located in south west Guelph, visible from Highway #6, north of the 401. It is owned and operated by John Barber, the son of D.S. Barber.

Robert Henry Barber also served the Guelph area as a deputy game warden & councillor. He was a Baptist (a member of First Baptist Church, Guelph).

He died of bronchitus on 7 January, 1923 and was buried 10 January, 1923 in Woodlawn Cemetery, Guelph - Lot 34, Block E.
