John Babcock

John Babcock, UEL, was born January 26, 1746/47 in New Jersey (or England) and died in 22 May 1817, Ameliasburg, Prince Edward Island Co., (IGI says 1812). He served in the New Jersey Volunteers in the early part of the Revolutionary War. He resided in Bergen Co., NJ and moved with others to ON in 1791, settling finally in Ameliasburgh Tp., Prince Edward Co. He died there between 1804 and 1812.

John Babcock married Catherine Unknown (1742 - 10 July 1836, Ameliasburgh, ON) in New Jersey in 1777.

John Babcock was a British Officer who came to America to fight in the Revolutionary War. When the war ended he emigrated to Canada (likely from New Jersey), settled in Ameliasburgh and advanced in his military career to the rank of Colonel. John and his wife were close friends of the Weese family and apparently both famililes had spent some time in Adophustown before coming to Ameliasburgh.
