John Donaldson

John Donaldson, father of David Donaldson, was born in County Down, Ireland, around 1805. He was married to Jane Jeffrey (or Jaffrey) - who was born around 1839 in Northern Ireland, on the 1st of October, 1831 - at a Presbyterian Church, Killinchy, Co. Down, Ulster Province, Northern Ireland. John died in Marathon Village, Carlton County, Ontario 22 September, 1874. He was buried at Lowry Cemetery. Jane died 16th of May 1890, Marathon Village, Carlton County and was buried at Lowry Cemetery. It is probable that the Donaldsons of Ireland were originally from Scotland - settlers in the Scottish settlement of Ulster Province in northern Ireland, in the 1600's. Children of John Donaldson and Jane Jeffrey were: Martha Clarke Donaldson - born 30 Dec 1824, Killinchy, Co. Down; married to Hugh Shields, Canada in 1857; died 1901. James Donaldson - 28 July, 1832 in Northern Ireland; married Eliza Jane Shields, 12 February 1853, Lanark County, Ontario; died in Fitzroy Township, Carlton Couinty, Ontario, 27th of Jan. 1914. Mary Jane Donaldson - born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, 15 April 1934; married Stephenson D. Moorhead, between 1851-55; died in Canada 21 Nov. 1924. Children: Susanna James, Samuel, Jennie, Eliza Ann, David, William John, Florence John Donaldson - born ca 1834, Northern Ireland; married Mary Croskery; died 3 July 1917, in Canada. David Donaldson - born 30 October, 1838 in Newtownards, Killinchy, County Down, Ireland; 30 May 1903, Dundee, Ontario. William Donaldson - born 1842, Canada; married Jane Moreton 8 February, 1869, Arnprior, McNab Twp., Renfrew Co. South; died in 1905, Packenham Twp., Lanark Co., ON. Nancy Agnes Donaldson - born ca 1849, Canada; married William John McBride, 16 March 1871; died in Canada in 1921.
