Can anyone identify this person-- John Skagfjord, also called Jack Scafford, in the Swan River Valley, and Bowsman. His wife is Sigurhlif Danielsson AFN RD8Z-1L . Her father Jonas Danielsson b 1838 Hrafnabjorg, his wife Johanna Johannsdottir b 1859 Laxardal. Children of John Skagfjord Asta Skagfjord Durand d1972, Adalsteinn Skagfjord. Parents of John Skagfjord are not known. Almanak 1923 page 79 Kristjan Kristjansson has taken the surname Skagfjord, wife Asta, his children are not known. Vesturfaraskra page 288, Kristjan Kristjansson, wife Asta, son Jon Kristjansson, is this John Skagfjord ???

Response: There was a Jón born Dec 1883 in Dakota Territory that was adopted by Kristján Kristjánsson Skagfjör? and Ásta Thóra Jónasdóttir who lived many years in Advance Township, Pembina County, Dakota Territory (later North Dakota), later moving to Swan River Valley. Kristján and Ásta had lost a son named Jón in New Iceland in 1877, together with Jón’s sister Thóra. As far as known they had no further children of their own (three others had died at birth) and adopted two boys, Jón and A?alsteinn (born Sep 1885 in Dakota Territory, died 4 Jul 1912 in Swan River Valley District). I have never been able to determine with any certainty the parents of Jón and A?alsteinn (who may in fact have different parents). The coincidences of names and locations make it almost certain this is the same John you refer to. Would greatly appreciate learning if you should identify the real parents.
