Will of William Noble
William Noble made a will dated 5 May 1573. His will asks to be buried at Gt Livermere ... to his wife Joan a tenement in Gt Livermere with the crofts there belonging for her natural life with one acre of best arable land which she would choose lying in Barton, also all his his household and moveable goods whatsoever ... to Jane my daughter (under 21) to William my son (under 21), godson Augustine Noble (under 21), ... property at Gt Livermere & Barton, etc. He went on to say that, should his wife at any time require a dowry out of his lands and tenement, it was his will that his aforesaid gits before given and bequeathed, shall stand without rancour and of feud towards the said Joan. William bequeather his mansion house and houses with all his and both pasture and arable lying in Livermere Magna and Varton to his son William, who at the time was only five years old.
In his father's will of 1557 the land appears to have been mainly bequeathed in strips, it seems that since then all the farmland had been changed into small areas or arable or pasture, called crofts or pightles, as it is thus bequeathed in William's and all subsequent wills. His will was proved on 26 July 1573.
